ABOUT SOUNDS OF VALOR

About

The story behind Sounds of Valor goes back to the late 1960s, when America conscripted a young, aspiring musician from Brooklyn to serve in the Vietnam War. After completing a deployment with the US Army's 101st Airborne Division, Tom Mooney returned to his hometown and embarked on a career as a musician, performing all over the country as a singer, guitarist, and drummer in several different bands. He eventually left the music industry to embark on a successful career in advertising, earning a wide array of awards including multiple Cannes Lions and an Emmy.

After leaving the ad biz, Mooney turned his attention back to making music full time. Long determined to find a way tp combine his pride in his military service with his love of rock n' roll, the ostensibly-retired Tom eventually hit upon an idea: building a band made up entirely of military veterans. A way to show people that America's veterans can shred and croon with as much skill and passion as anyone. And that's how Sounds of Valor came to be.

After getting the word out, Mooney received audition tapes from dozens of extremely talented musicians who at one time or another served the US in uniform. After a painstaking selection process and months of rehearsal, the men and women of Sounds of Valor, representing nearly every branch of America's Armed Forces, held their debut performance on the stage of the storied the Irvington Theater to thunderous applause.

Since then, Sounds of Valor (and the incredibly talented individuals who make up the band) continues the mission of proving America's veteran's have much to offer beyond their military service. And that a decent number of them really know how to rock n' roll.
